Found this old lathe in a field. It had only been outdoors for almost a year. Came out of a 4th generation machine shop that originally started as a logging company. The Great Grandfather purchased this lathe around 1920 to repair logging equipment. Having this lathe in his shop, the shop became the local equipment repair hub over time. More machines and machinist we hired to handle the workload and eventually the business converted to a full time machine job shop. This lathe sat in the original shop for decades and when the property sold it was moved to a field behind the current shop location. I was lucky enough to acquire it and become the new custodian of this piece of machinery history. The original cointershaft assembly came with it and overall the machine is in great shape. The plain bearings have some wear but are still in good order. There is some normal wear on the spindle gear but gear train is complete with no broken teeth. Spindle is in good shape and everything functions. Half nut handle will have to be replaced, carriage lock needs replaced.
