These photos were sent to us by Gerard Sexton, who inherited this trimmer from his father. The patent date on this trimmer corresponds to what is arguably the earliest workable patent for a universal miter trimmer, i.e., a trimmer where the miter angle is adjustable over a range of at least 45 degrees. We have had another report of a Fox miter trimmer marked with this patent date but that trimmer does not match the patent. This one does, and it is confirmation that this early design was manufactured. It is marked "W.R.FOX GRAND RAPIDS MICH.PATENT JUNE 17 1879-1888." We're not sure what the 1888 means. Year of manufacture, perhaps?
