I answered a local FB Marketplace add and discovered I knew the person selling the band saw! I had never met Rick B. in person but he and others in the local area messaged each other on this forum, vintagemachinery.org. This band saw was one that Rick was holding for another person that never got the chance to do the restoration. Rick and I toured his shop full of his machines and projects. I ended up with the band saw and a box full of parts to an old bench grinder. Thanks Rick B.!

This Delta Milwaukee 14" Band Saw has been fully-restored to an original condition. This 1952 machine is a survivor and is now back to factory-new condition. It needed a full restoration so I did a complete teardown and replaced all the worn parts with new parts, removed all the dirt, grime and rust before painting. The motor works smooth and it was also completely re-built with new bearings and fresh paint.

The large diameter drive pulley had a bad hub. It was wobbly and loose on the shaft, so it would not run true. I bored the hub out and press-fit an aluminum insert, locked with a pin so it can't spin. I bored the insert to match the shaft and cut a new key-way, along with a new tapped hole for the set screw that secures the pulley on the shaft. Now its like new again!

I made a new tapered pin for the table's blade slot and added a new table stop rod. I put a lanyard onto each of these parts to help keep them attached to the machine; they seem to wander off if you don't tie them down!

With everything disassembled, I got all the parts cleaned and ready for painting (I hate painting!!). I put two coats of primer and two coats of grey paint on all the steel parts. I put a coat of paste wax on all the painted parts for added protection, and did the same for all the mounting hardware (helps to preserve and protect the bare metal from rust). I cleaned the Delta Milwaukee badge on the upper wheel cover, down to bare aluminum, and repainted it to the original colors. The motor got the same treatment with new paint and a wax job.

I added rubber pads to the bottoms of the stand legs. I used rubber practice hockey pucks that I cut a rabbet into the circumference, deep enough to match the diameter on the inset of the leg foot and secured each of them with two wood screws through the top of the leg foot. Makes for a nice-looking, durable foot pad that also helps keep the band saw stable.

This Band Saw includes a Miter Gauge for the table and a wood bracket mounted to the stand for storing the Miter Gauge. The Miter Gauge is not original and the bracket is my own DIY creation; nothing fancy, but it's handy.

I added a work lamp to the band saw. It's not an original Retirement Lamp, but a very good copy of that design. I made the lamp shade and the mounting brackets out of ABS plastic on my 3D printer. I purchased the brass light bulb socket on Amazon and fitted the lamp with an LED spot light. The mounting brackets allow the lamp shade to swivel, horizontally, in and out as needed. The original Band Saw didn't have a lamp or wiring, so I added the wiring and connected it to the input AC power at the motor switch. The work Lamp works independent from the Band Saw motor, controlled at the lamp by a twist ON/OFF switch.
