I answered a local FB Marketplace add and discovered I knew the person selling the band saw! I had never met Rick B. in person but he and others in the local area messaged each other on this forum, vintagemachinery.org. This band saw was one that Rick was holding for another person that never got the chance to do the restoration. Rick and I toured his shop full of his machines and projects. I ended up with the band saw and a box full of parts to an old bench grinder. Thanks Rick B.!

The machine is a survivor and almost complete. It needs a restoration so I will do a complete teardown and replace all the worn parts with new parts, remove all the dirt, grime and rust before I paint it. The motor works and it too will be completely re-built with new bearings and fresh paint.

The large diameter drive pulley has a bad hub. It is wobbly on the shaft and will not run true. I bored the hub out and press-fit an aluminum insert, locked with a pin so it can't spin. I bored the insert to match the shaft and cut a new key-way along with a new tapped hole for the set screw that secures the pulley on the shaft.

I made a new tapered pin for the table slot and added an new table stop rod. I put a lanyard onto each of these parts to help keep them attached to the machine; they seem to wander off if you don't tie them down!

With everything disassembled, I got all the parts cleaned and ready for painting (I hate painting!!). I put two coats of primer and two coats of grey paint on all the steel parts. I put a coat of paste wax on all the painted parts and the mounting hardware (helps preserve the metal a bit from rust). I cleaned the Delta Rockwell badge down to bare aluminum and repainted it to the original colors. The motor got the same treatment with new paint and a wax job.

I added rubber pads to the bottoms of the stand legs. I used rubber practice hockey that I cut a rabbet into the circumference, deep enough to match the diameter on the inset of the leg foot and secured each of them with two wood screws through the top of the leg foot. Makes for a nice-looking, durable foot pad that also helps keep the band saw stable.

I added a light to the band saw. I made the light shade and the mounting brackets out of ABS plastic on the 3D printer. I purchased the brass light socket on Amazon and fitted the light with an LED spot light. The mounting brackets allow the lamp shade to swivel, horizontally, in and out as needed. The band saw didn't have a light or wiring so I added the wiring and connected it to the input AC power at the motor switch so the light works independent from the band saw motor.
