This is a 5-16 B Richert-Shafer Co Tapping Machine. It appears to be the Column Type Horizontal Tapper but the base is no longer with the machine. No history is known about this particular machine. Early advertisements show it being driven by a line shaft type power belt but this one is driven by an electric motor. Whether the motor is original or was added later as a modification is unknown? The ID plate shows the serial number as A794-17 with a patent date of 9-14-15. Since the serial number ends with 17, I believe it was manufactured in 1917, but that is only a guess. In March 2025 this was spotted by me in Facebook Marketplace for sale and the seller agreed to permit his pictures to be used on this forum for future reference.
