Baxter Whitney Band Saw. Acquired from a Marketplace seller in Wakefield RI. Was originally used in a local boatyard. When the boatyard closed, an employee took it home and stored it in his barn, where it remained for 35 years. He was recently cleaning out the barn and remembered that the gentleman who sold it to me worked in the boatyard when he was a teenager. He offered the saw to him and he accepted. It was then listed on Marketplace and by some miracle I saw it.

I was unable to find any reference to Bandsaws manufactured by Whitney in any of their early catalogs. I also couldn't find any advertisements or literature for the same. I was able to find the Patent for the blade tensioning mechanism used on this machine. Interestingly, the illustration for one of the patents shows this band saw. Date of manufacture is a guess.

The upper wheel is original. Not sure on the lower. Lower bearings are bronze. Upper has been converted to pillow blocks. The table may be a replacement, but the saw was originally equipped with a wooden table. I determined this from the patent illustrations showing the same. The cast iron frame is unbroken and in good condition. This is surprising given the delicate appearance of the legs.

If anyone reading this knows of any literature or pictures for this saw, I'd love to see them.
