Comments:
This device is held and displayed by Ocean County, NJ in their Wells Mills county park. Precious little is left of the mills themselves, but they have this in their new nature center building. From their placard (which is also pictured): This planer was first used by the Estlow family at Wells Mills where it was powered by water. Planers are used to remove the rough marks made by sawmill blades and to reduce the lumber to a smaller thickness. Sam Hunt acquired this planer from Tildne Estlow in the 1940's after the mill fell into disuse. It returned home in 1998 when it was donated to Wells Mills County Park.
