Comments:
This machine came to me from the estate of our friend Mark Dakins, and the helpful intervention of my friend Travis. Enamored as I am of the early chompers—machines designed to use muscle power to sever wood fiber at an angle—this one had to come home with me. Patented in 1858, who is to say when this one was manufactured? It certainly predates all my other chompers.
