Purchased from owner that worked at Sayles Mill Building in Lincoln RI in March of 2024. Restored in April 2024 for good friend. This is my third full restoration of a Model 1000. This one was in pretty good shape. There was a minor casting break that I repaired using some UHWM jigging and some epoxy steel. I also had 4 guide pieces machined that were missing. I had the cutter head modified to have 4 lifting screws under each knife for quick height setting. I used UNF machine screws to make small adjustments easy. As a result I can set all three blades to within .005 in just a few minutes. Decals were recreated in vector graphics software and then I used SignPro in CT. to create high quality stickers. The decals are as close to original as one can get, even sampling the colors directly from originals. I thoroughly enjoy renovating these fine machines and will jump at the chance whenever I find one in the marketplace. You cannot find a better moveable machine for under $1000 anywhere. Most machines can be had for under $400 and I put in about $600 of parts and repair into them. I have put other improvements into the machines over time, like stalk mounted low voltage power switches using contactors for motor starting, magnetic rod supports for drive pulleys to allow drive train disengagement, UHWM rub pads for drive train handle. Use of stainless steel hardware throughout along with self sealing grease nipples vs. the old cup style. These machines will outlast many generations and it is my hope they go on for many, many years.
