Comments:
I purchased this bandsaw from Dane County (Wisconsin) Highway department, maintenance shop. No other history is known. It is a Heavy 20, circa 1945 and is in good shape structurally. The aluminum wheel guards are damaged but repairable. The remainder of the saw is all cast iron. The saw arrived (to me) with a 1/2 hp, 3 ph Peerless motor, which might be original. The motor drive pulley is 3" diameter and the driven pulley is 10" diameter, with 20 inch diameter bandsaw wheels. The resultant saw speed is therefore 2748 sfpm. The belt is an A style belt. I moved the saw off of a U haul trailer into my shop using only a 2 ton engine hoist. The s/n was stamped near upper wheel shaft - no Cresent badge is present, leading this owner to speculate that this was possibly a "war-time era" machine, originally supplied with a paper badge that became lost over time. Plans are to restore and use for all my woodworking needs. Consideration might be to install a VFD inverter to the 3 ph motor, which would provide very low speeds (100-250 sfpm) for cutting aluminum or sheet steel.
