I stumbled on it at the estate sale of a gentleman who had died in a car crash. No one else bid on it and I got it for the opening bid of $25. The motor was lying by a building some distance away from the drill press and I just happened to see it as the auction progressed, so I bought it for $1. It’s an old Hoover 1/3 hp unit which was packed full of mud dauber nests. But it stall ran - amazing. I suspect it’s original to the machine as there is an identical machine for sale right now on-line in Wichita, KS with the exact same motor. It was an easy restoration as all the wear points of the machine looked pretty much new once I cleaned them up. It’s a very simple machine and didn’t take long to restore. It runs very smoothly.

I accidentally broke the retaining slots on the return spring cup (arrrrrgh) and had to cut them anew with my Dremel rotary tool. It works fine, but I’ll keep my eyes open for a replacement.

Tho it doesn’t show in this pic, I took the aluminum wiring diagram plate off the cover to the electrical box. In order to keep it with the motor, I drilled the case when I had the motor apart and mounted it on the case with rivets to keep it w the motor

The badge - it was missing at time of purchase and cost me as much as the drill press and motor on e-bay. But when ya gotta have it…. The red is faded to grey. That grey and the black motor drove the color scheme of the drill press.
