Comments:
Photos were taken as it was unloaded into my workshop. The prior owner obtained this machine somewhere near Cortland, NY before kindly passing it along to me. The age estimate is based on other serial numbers in the Crescent registry/photo index as well as other distinguishing features that can be discerned from old catalog images on this website. This one uses SKF 1307 & 1308 self-aligning ball bearings on the cutter head, a 7-bolt "2189" front bearing cover/casting as depicted in the '28 catalog. It also lacks the rabbeting table of newer models. The most distinguishing feature may be the older GE 4HP MODEL NO 49166 3-phase 220V direct drive, which is less common that 5HP Woods motors. The blade guard pictured is likely aftermarket from an unknown (to me) manufacturer. The original color was either a flat black or dark charcoal, later painted army green, then finally gray as shown in these pictures. I hope to restore it to working condition.
