Comments:
Bought on Craigslist 12/24/23 for $225. PO bought in Indiana for $200 in 2022. No other known history.
Currently lacking faceplate, any tooling, any parts holding. Missing tailstock clamp and bolt, compound rest, and lantern toolpost.
EDIT 12/25/23: Based on missing paint on rear of carriage and no faceplate, may have been an 8 (Toolroom) model, in which case it's missing the entire taper turning attachment and the handwheel collet set. Serial number may help with that. Full number from the bed reads "DPC 302 102 123523 L.Q.R"
EDIT 12/26/23: Data tag from change gear cover lists catalog # as 199Y, making this a 10R per SouthBendLathe.com, but I have not measured the spindle thread or bore to verify this. Could be a replacement cover.
EDIT 12/26/23: Data tag on change gear cover is CORRECT. Spindle bore is 1", spindle thread is 1-7/8"-8. Oh well, can't win em all.
EDIT 12/27/23: Rust and dirt on S/N, actual number (as noted above) is 128523. Also has markings "J.F.P." below the aforementioned "L.Q.R." Steve Wells states the "DPC" refers to the Defence Plant Corporation, more info at http://what-when-how.com/the-american-economy/defense-plant-corporation-dpc/. The numbers after the 'DPC' refer to the plant and possibly the project, but both were kept confidential and can rarely be deciphered.
