This lathe I estimate was made circa 1920. It is all original and runs like a fine watch. It is smooth and vibration free. It is built like the larger pattern lathes with the motor hanging below the spindle. Your foot loosens the belt to enable changing speeds. With the addition of a modern solid state digital control(inverter), one can get variable speed without loss of hp. The motor controller can be programmed to slow start and enable speeds otherwise unavailable while converting the power from single to three phase. I have had many Oliver lathes, and this is one of my favortites. It is for sale for anyone interested. Restored by Vintage American Woodworking Machinery inc, it is in excellent condition. A rare model, this beauty is a find example of the quaility machinery built in the USA during the era of pride in workmanship.
