The saw was given to me by a very nice gentleman, Sam, from Mississippi. The saw belonged to his father who owned a cabinet shop in Birmingham AL. He worked in at night after his day job. His father had a stroke and insisted they keep the machines. Unfortunately his father never recovered enough to be able to go back to work. The machines were stored for many years and moved several times. I promised Sam I would make sure they were restored and put to good use.
I had the saw in my shop for two or three months before I could start on it. The base, as you can see in the photo was very rusty. I built a temporary tank out of concrete blocks on my trailer and lined it with plastic sheeting for an electrolysis tank. I cleaned the base in tank and used a smaller tub for the legs. The rest of the saw was sanded and/or wire brushed and repainted. I chose to keep the original table as a connection to it's previous owner.
The saw was originally a very dark gray from what I found under the switch box. Since I plan on using the saw I didn't worry about making it perfect and just used this lighter gray I found. The saw was in excellent shape and just needed years of dirt cleaned from it and of course the rust from storage. It even has the (as far as I can tell) original Arrow Hart switch on it. The only thing left to do is reinstall the DeWalt tag on the base and enjoy using it!
