Purchased from an equipment auction in a remote area of Nevada Co. CA in Fall, 2018. It was fairly rusty, but was disassembled, cleaned up with elbow grease and EvapoRust, and repainted. This is one of the newer versions of the 1460 12" lathe, which was first introduced in 1938, and was phased out about 1964. This 1961 model has a new bearing/spindle setup (introduced 1961), and a newer, simplified tail stock (replaced the older one on this model ca. 1959). It came with a jack shaft and contemporary Delta (Doerr) 1/2 HP motor (62-653). Unfortunately, it lacked the iconic cast iron legs, but was mounted on a sturdy home-made stand.
I replaced the bearings with modern sealed equivalents, and replaced the missing indexing pin. I repaired and reinforced the stand and built a mobile base for it. I removed the jack shaft and replaced the motor with a 1 HP 3-phase motor and VFD. It's a good lathe.
Bearings:
outboard: SKF 6205 2Z, metal shields; 25mm x 52mm x 15mm. Replaced with: 6205 LL NA
inboard: ND 55505, double row w/ metal shields; 25mm x 52mm x 13/16 in (20.6mm). Replaced with: 5205 LL JF
