This jack shaft was purchased at an estate sale. It was setting on a workbench, hiding in the corner. An arbor had been attached holding a grinding wheel (broken). It had been passed over the three previous sale days. I was happy to come home with it that last day of the sale. The sticker on the base was very worn and I could not make out the brand name. It could be a Companion or a Dunlap or a Craftsman as this jack shaft ran the gamut changing branding over the years. The Companion and Dunlap versions appear (according to Craftsman catalog pics from 1940-42) to have a shorter shaft with two stop collars. This one had a long shaft and only one collar, so I am going with Craftsman. That would date it 1948-1950 (again per the catalogs). In the end, I added a second stop collar and used the long shaft with two collars. When found, it was missing the oil plugs and single sheave outer pulley. The arbor, which was in place of the pulley, is in my toolbox. The jack shaft is painted, for now, with Rustoleum Deep Green Hammered (color discontinued).
