Comments:
just picked this up in a basement of an Antique shop in Zion ILLINOIS that is going out of business. A very rare Coats machine.....a 4" drum sander out of the great state of: New York.......A very robust little sanding machine. Has its original paint, with a very nicely previous owner made fence which appears to be not original, but in use for a very long time.....Very delicate fence to enable one to slide work on....Also has an opening protruding out that is threaded.....could be for another type of fence that would of been an extra possibly... just speculating....Mounted to a 1/4 HP GE motor. runs like a top...was standing in a corner for 40 years.......neatest machine i have found in awhile.... all of it is mounted to a rough hewn board on some robust hardware......(it is portable)

[ADMIN NOTE JAJ: Looks similar, though not identical, to sanders from Hormel-Wagner Co. / Walls Sales Corp. Under "Images" there is a 1922 article about an earlier version of this Coats sander. The Hormel-Wagner patent was still in force and this Coats sander seems most likely to be a competitive product that managed to avoid infringing that patent.]
