Purchased from a fellow enthusiast and OWWM member in Southeast Texas, about two hours away. He had upgraded to a bigger industrial LeBlond but he and his sons used and maintained this lathe regularly and with great care.
I contacted Clausing and confirmed this lathe was shipped from the factory in July 1949, maybe a year or so before Atlas bought the company. This was the first model to have the closed/oil bath headstock and quick change gear boxes.
Nice features include the uncommon (and ultra cool) art deco style badge, rarely seen Clausing legs, and outboard drive assembly, which pivots off the leg and includes a cam lever to release tension. The quick change gear box works smoothly and I'm also impressed by the single lever to switch between longitudinal and cross power feed. This model later became an Atlas/Clausing 6300 series.
