I purchased this machine earlier in the week from Reliable tools (via Ebay). This is the double sided version and has two motors to run the horizontal and vertical actions of the sander. I hope the mechanics are in as good a shape as the exterior. The machine looks very good.
Now I know why they call themselves Reliable tool, amazingly it was on the truck on Wednesday and delivered to my office Saturday morning. In absolutely perfect shape. It came LTL, I was very satisfied with the transportation; however, I've paid less for many of my machines for what it cost to ship up the coast--2800Lbs! This machine is absolutely priceless; if you have not had the opportunity to view one personally I would highly recommend you seek one out if you are in the market for such a machine. Many thanks to Tim Shetler for assisting with the survey of this machine, if he doesn't know these machines, nobody does!
Tim told me without inspecting it in person, you really don't know what condition the main oscillating pins are in and that could be a big job if you need to line-bore and have new bushings made. Crossing my fingers!
The sander is still on the trailer at my shop, and I'm wondering what my next move is for getting it off. It sure would be nice to own a fork lift! The photos show a nearly white machine, but they are bleached, it actually is "Delta Gray".
Next steps are to order up some sanding paper, do a complete survey of what may need to be fixed, and determine whether I need to invest in a larger Idler motor!
Even though today was another gray day in Seattle, the sun was shining at my shop. All the best.
>>Update 6-4-2006
We unloaded the machine yesterday using my friends well drilling boom truck, it didn't even flinch lifting the 2700lbs (but you can bet I did when I saw it hanging from 5 feet in the air!).
I gave it the initial inspection as I left the sander wrapped in the shrink wrap since arriving. Overal looks very good; however, there are two minor things that will require a little bit of work: 1. Reliable Tools painted the whole sander and in doing so, seized several key parts; for example, the belt tensioner (big handwheel on top), and 2. there were two table levers broken off--but the number of times I will use these I can live with it.
I need to determine the motor size--the plates are painted over and I'm hoping its the 5 h.p. motor, if anyone knows how to determine the hp without having the motor plates I'm all ears.
Tables had light rust and came off easily with the green pads. Next steps are to wire it up and see if it blows the breaker! This is one very nice machine.
