I have been keen to find one of these for almost fifteen years. They are not common this far West. Although I have and use a Rockwell 1x42 and am very satisfied with it, the Mead Bandsanders have an undeniable elegance, design flair, good lines. Besides, having now gotten the opportunity to go through this machine, I can appreciate some of the finer points of their design. The tiny set screws tapped into the castings to hold the various idler pulley shafts in position, the grease zerks to lubricate the bearings, and the simple layout are all pluses. The two minuses I’ve so far encountered are the fussy wing nut+spacer tube + overlong bolt to secure the table to its trunnion make belt changes or switching to inside sanding a bit clunky. And the large gap between belt and adjacent table edge surprised me a bit. The hardboard table could of course be cut to reduce that gap, but for small/tiny parts a bit more support up close (protection against those little parts being sucked down) would be nice.
