Dayton Model 1Z895 Type 1, Reversible 1/2" Industrial Power Drill. I found this in a scrap yard with cord missing but a really nice drill chuck still attached. (Jacobs MC8K33 chuck) The drill was locked up and would not turn. Bought it for $5. Took it apart and it looked new inside. Found that one of the two screws that hold the field winding in place had come loose, dropped down into the revolving fan blade, and bent the long screw locking up the drill. It took awhile to get it apart. Straightened fan and screw, reinstalled, put on a power cord and it ran like a champ! The reverse switch worked as well. So I polished it up and it has been working in our shop ever since. The top handle has a 3/4" piece of pipe that screws into the drill body. The bare metal handle was covered by a motorcycle grip. The switch is lockable, but the warning sign says: “Release trigger before reversing” the drill with the side mounted toggle switch. No load RPM is 500. Doing the math, it works out at just under 1 HP for power. It will also run on 25 to 60 cycles of 115 VAC. It is great for stirring paint, concrete, etc. or drilling long or big holes. Probably made in the 1950s up to 1962. The manufacturer, Dayton Electric MFG. Co. has as it’s address, Chicago 12, ILL. The 2 letter state designation (IL) came into being in Oct. of 1963. Zip codes came into effect in July of 1963 dropping the 12 out of the address and making this a pre-1963 drill. Serial #: GGE 5653. Weighs 11.5 lbs. It is a torque monster!
