Comments:
Found this in La Pine Oregon at a secondhand store.
It was disassembled and not priced. They told me to make an offer. I offered $40 and they took it.
Looks like it was rattle canned at some point, so the original color is unknown.
When its turn comes up, I'll disassemble and refurbish as needed.
The motor needs a spin by hand to get it running so I'll be going through it too.
Not real sure of the build date but I suspect that it is one of the early versions.
The motor tag is nearly illegible so no help there on dating either.
Pictured as found in 2020.
update:
Moved 350 miles and started refurb in new shop
All I had to do was disassemble, clean and reassemble the head.
Bearings were good so no need to remove.
Return spring was intact but not connected.
There was so much grease in the head that the quill would stick even with the spring reattached and tensioned.
Flat pack start capacitor was missing in base. Couldn't find another so used a new standard type and mounted it in a junction box.
On/off switch had been relocated to front left side of head. It was bad so I replaced it.
Spent many hours cleaning and polishing before I painted.
Used Rustoleum Hammered black and Rustoleum Burgandy.
I even left the dent in the motor case!
She is a thing of beauty. I was going to sell but I just couldn't do it!
