Found this nice old drill press being auctioned off by the county. It had apparently spent much of it's life being used by students and aquiring a nice grungy patina and layers of green paint. The "arc of shame" is very well established on this one, but that seems to be about it's only problem. I think I will give it the full treatment. Very nice, clean castings.

It did require a three hour round trip with my six year old. I bribed him with Chicken Nuggets and Cheetos. Now he thinks it's fun to ride around in the car, looking for old machines. Subverting the next generation...

I need to find a way to save that big safety sticker and post it on my shop door.

Update 09/26/06:
Cleaned, painted, motor and spindle bearings replaced. I have added a Teco FM150 for phase conversion and variable speed. I am really impressed with the gracefulness and smoothness of the castings. This is a smooth-running beauty.
