I bought this Craftsman sander in a lot of three machines (Sander, Wood Lathe and Band Saw for $115 each) from the original owners son in Poteau Oklahoma who's Dad had bought them all brand new in the mid 1950's at the Sears Store in Tulsa Oklahoma.
This sander was in very good original condition as you can see from the last picture I took in 2002.The pedestal stand was also bought new in 1956 and as you can see Sears was using the new "Powder Bronze" color on their machines along with the darker King-Seeley grey color also. I restored this sander and motor in Grey using the Awl Grip paint system. The stand was painted in Krylon Gold Metalic spray paint which I found to be a very, very close match to the original powder bronze factory color Sears used. I put on new 16-3 grounded electrical cord, 20-amp toggle switch in a metal box, a new Gates Hi-Power 50" V-Belt, a new 3.5" Chicago die cast motor pulley and a new external cylinder shaped capacitor which in under the motor that I had to space up 3/4". I also installed two new 5/8" shaft bearings on the drive shaft end, the idler shaft/drum end has water pump dual row bearing that where just dry so I just soaked them back up with oil.
Sander Weight: 62 pounds
Pedestal Stand: 47 pounds
1/2-HP 1750 rpm Motor: 31 pounds
Sanding Table: 6.25" x 12"
Sanding Belt Table: 6.5' x 17 9/16"
Drum Diameter: 3 inches
