From Ruger: "This is a military variant of Ruger Industries model #HP-2A, 2-ton adjustable-leg floor crane.
This serial# was one of a group of about 2 dozen built in June 1988 for US Govt
and shipped to the Defense Depot @ Memphis, TN"

I purchased this machine in NW Washington State in 2019. All of the hydraulics leaked - the pump, the cylinder, the hoses, and some of the fittings too. There was some rust and many moving bits were impeded by corrosion. I did a 100% rebuild on this machine in September, 2022 - new hydraulic packing for the cylinder's piston and gland, and for the 2-speed pump. Also new Parker low pressure hoses and a new Gates swivel tee hydraulic fitting. All paint was removed and the casters and bearings were derusted and regreased. All moving joints were greased with spray grease. The hydraulic fluid was properly filled and the system bled according to the manufacturer's procedure. I painted the machine with 2 coats of an old Ford color called Rock Moss Green.

This machine is superficially like an import 2-ton engine hoist. But the legs can swivel out to allow the crane to get near to a large load. To allow the crane to roll correctly with the legs splayed, the front casters can be realigned with the direction of travel regardless of the position of the legs. The pump acts with 2 speeds; high speed to get the hook in position and then low speed for full power lifting. The crane is fitted with a floor lock, a device you step on and it clicks down. It does not lift any part of the crane off the ground, but it presses upward with a substantial force. This prevents the crane from moving as the pump handle is racked back and forth. It also helps unweight the legs to make them much easier to swing out or in. Finally, the machine is fitted with casters rated for the full lifting load of the machine, so you can pick up 2 tons and move the load.
