I picked up this machine in Spring of 2022. I had been looking for a small DP to dedicate for my small lathe. I picked up two others that just didn't work out for me. I found this one which the seller was selling for $40. This belonged to his grandfather, than his father, than himself. He used it, but then replaced it with a modern machine. However, he did replace bearings on this one to keep it drilling accurate holes in metal. The machine worked great when I brought it home, and drilled beautifully. I wanted to restore it anyhow as it was covered in grime and grease, and just looked very well used, which it was. Also, when I saw the machine, I kept thinking that it should have started its life in green. I am not partial to green, but I just didn't think it looked good in gray, and it just screamed green to me.
The head and arm is cast aluminum while the rest is cast iron. It is rather simply built, and I figure it was a value machine back in its day. It's nice though, and out of the three, this one is a keeper. I still need to find a motor for it. The one that it came with works just fine, but it's really big, and seems too heavy for the cast aluminum, so I'll be searching for a smaller, lighter motor.
