If I understand the Wiki page on PM serial numbers, this is a 1971 planer. I got the planer from my brother-in-law. He farms in north central Kansas and also ran a trucking firm with regular routes to Texas. He was building a house in the 80s and in need of a planer. He bought this one sight unseen from a school auction and had one of his trucks haul it back home. When he heard I was looking for one he mentioned tha the had an old planer that he would give me. When I saw what it was I was thrilled. As you can see, it spent plenty of time in the back of the farm shop accumulating bird droppings. Free, by the way.

It’s current condition. I’m not a purist and preferred the gold over the pea green. At this stage in my life, I had no time for restorations and paid Wolfe Machinery in Des Moines, IA (since closed) to do it for me.

As found at the farm. My B-I-L said after he got it, he only used it a couple of times then stored it in the shop. Good news for me, I guess. Did I mention that it was free? It was free.

The serial number is 180 110. Again, assuming I understand correctly, this dates it to 1971.
