just picked up this very desirable: Behr Manning (Norton multi-stone abrasive ) early green cast iron base with aluminum hood or top unit. Found this at an estate sale last weekend. Cleaned up very well, retaining its typical lime green paint on base and much less on the Aluminum top portion.... I am finding it difficult to realize much specific information on these earlier IM 313 units. I know they still make a newer version of this...there is also a rucker video on his resto. of a couple of them....anyway...this should be represented here... Details specific to this item are below...interesting part is that a portion of this can carry both a narrow 2" wide by 1" by 5 1/2" thick stone as well as the thinner 2 1/2" wide by 11" long stone. notice the PO has put in 2 stones for one...(Both are hard hones)...all stones were dead flat...which was very nice......I do have a very extensive arkansas, washita and norton natural stone collection.....so this will replace all of those.....
if anyone has specific knowledge of these....specifically years they were made.... etc......i would appreciate it...and am very interested in hearing from someone..... i do see a catalog in this outstanding site that shows them for sale in 1944 for 16$ bucks which includes natural stones the case and a can of oil.....the question then comes to mind....why did we need to evolve past this.......
