This is a Rockwell utility drill press model 15-017. The machine was acquired in January of 2006 and was located in Maxton, NC.
The drill press was completely disassembled for the restoration process. Painted parts were bead blasted or wire brushed, primed, and sanded in preparation for Limco automotive topcoat matched to an existing sample from the machine. Machined and non-painted surfaces were scraped, wire-brushed, or abrasive cleaned prior to reassembly.
The bearings in spindle/quill assembly were checked and replaced as necessary. The motor was checked by a local motor repair shop and found to be in good shape. The wiring was dry-rotted and frayed between the original Cuttler-Hammer pushbutton switch and the motor and was replaced. The original owner had attached a magnetic motor control starter to the wiring access cover on the motor by drilling a hole in the cover. The magnetic starter was removed and a new cover was fabricated.
Total hours in restoration - 35.
Restored: 2006.
