Comments:
This miter gage is identical to the previous gages (see Photo Index submission 4220) sold by Delta with the exception that the left corner (operator's side) is clipped. The upper left hand thumb nut has also been moved.

I am unsure exactly when this gage came out. It was never shown in any catalogs that I know of. The earliest mention of it with an illustration in Instructions for Operating Circular Saw Guards dated 3/40. In that operating guide it is mentioned that the clip was added to clear the blade guards.

It does have the same U.S. and Canadian patent numbers as shown on the earlier version (see Photo Index submission 4220) and decal.

In 1941 Delta adopted the Delta/Milwaukee brand name. Later gages have Delta/Milwaukee cast into them (see Photo Index submission 4222). It is unknown if this practice (brand cast into the head) started immediately.

In 1942 the new style head with both corners clipped was shown in the catalogs with the debut of the No. 20-200 8" Tilting Table Saw (HCS-500 Base Casting). I assume that this new style became the standard and shipped with all saw regardless of size.

So the long story short is, the first mention of this gage was in 1940. The new one was shown in 1942 so this gage probably didn't get much more than a couple of years (if that) on the market.
