I answered an advertisement for a 12 inch jointer in a local "trader" and found this sad piece of machinery. It was disassembled and piled in a corner of the garage. The owner had purchased it, taken it apart, and let it sit - rust, dirt and all. None of us have done that! I felt sorry for it and paid the $50 the owner was asking.

I have reassembled the parts in what looks like their correct positions and it now awaits further attention. The jointer seems complete except for the fence and guard. "Buss Machinery Works, Benton Harbor Mich." is cast into the base and a brass "Chicago Machinery Exchange" tag is attached to the bed. It has babbitt bearings that need to be recast and the cutter head is round and 4 bladed. The head is marked "S. J. Shimer & Sons Milton Pa." The blades are marked "Triple S Knives". I believe the cutter head is a replacement for the original but I am only guessing. The infeed and outfeed tables are approximately 17" x 30".
