This shaper was purchased on a lark when I was asked to make a run for another machine. I figured since I was making the trip anyway, why come back empty handed? I had never seen a Greenlee shaper in person before so I was kind of buying a "pig in a poke" but I am pleased with it. Heavy is the magic word for this machine. It has a 33" by 42" very heavy table with 1-1/2" thick closely spaced ribs and the whole table is machined on the bottom so clamping fences and jigs will be easy. It is belt driven by a Louis Allis 5 hp motor. It has a very heavy cast iron motor mount and belt cover. Final spindle speed is approximately 10,000 rpm. The spindle runs in oil mist lubed bearings and it runs very smooth and absolutely vibration free. The large table opening is 8-1/4" with a filler down to 6". I set it next to my Oliver 287 and leveled the two together. Even though the Oliver has a larger footprint I can scoot it around on the wood floor but the Greenlee was not going to be budged. I had to get out the 6 foot pry bar to have a chance of moving it. I'm certain it weighs quite a bit more than the 287. As is this shaper runs smooth and I have too many other projects ahead of it so this is the way it will look for a while until I decide if I will keep it or not.
