This entry is to document the construction of a factory original Parks planer shipping crate.
The wood appears to be Douglas Fir or Southern Yellow Pine.
(4) vertical corner sides: 3/4" x 3-1/2" x 26"
(8) horizontal sides: 3/4" x 3-1/2" x 22" (spacing inconsistent-approximately 4")
(8) horizontal ends: 3/4" x 3-1/2" x 34-1/4" (spacing inconsistent-approximately 4")
(2) end diagonals: 3/4" x 3-5/8" x 38-3/4"
(4) top slats: 3/4" x 3-1/2" x 34-1/4" (spacing approximately 3-3/16")
(1) top support (missing from crate) in middle under 4 slats: 1-5/8" x 3-5/8" x 22"
(2) planer mounting boards: 1-5/8" x 3-5/8" x 30-5/8" (5-1/4" space between boards)
(2) bottom skids: 1-5/8" x 3-5/8" x 21-1/2"
8d common nails: all horizontal slats into 2x boards
6d sinker nails: all 1x to 1x joints
Planer mounted to boards: (4) 5/16-18 x 2-1/4" carriage bolts and (4) square nuts (carriage bolt heads on bottom and nuts contact planer frame)
Bottom horizontal side slats nailed to ends of planer mounting boards.
Bottom horizontal end slats nailed to ends of bottom skids.
This particular planer (badged Craftsman) was shipped from a Detroit Sears location to the buyer in Wyandotte Michigan.
