Purchased this machine out of northern Indiana in 2021. Prior owner said it was used at his work, he liked it so much he bought it when they didn't want it anymore. Unfortunately, that's the limited history I have.
When I broke it down and refinished it I found a war finish tag on the lower right side of the upper column like other 1B's I have seen. Unsure on mfg date, but comparing serials to others posted here, I'm guessing 1943-44. I have contacted Monarch and Gosiger to try and get some history, with no success.
The machine was in good working order when I purchased it, it just looked rough. It has a MT1 spindle, 1/2" hp motor, leather drive belt with 4 speeds, 5" spindle travel. I get about .005-.007" runout 1" down from the chuck. The oil cups and holes are great for keeping it well lubricated, but the total loss oiling system does make the drill a mess in short order.

Old war finish tag, you'd never know it was there if you didn't know to look for it
