Here is an interesting belt driven arbour-style bench grinder/sander for sale in the local on-line classifieds. It's not mine, but looked unique enough to post these pictures for posterity. This unit features an 8" diameter sanding disc and 3" wide sanding drum on one side and what appears to be a 2" wide fine-grit grinding wheel on the other side. The listing states that the grinding wheel side can take up to 8" diameter wheel, but what's installed seems a bit smaller.
In addition to Poly Products, Monrovia, Calif cast into the grinding wheel side shield, the name "Northland" is cast into the front of the belt guard. Not sure if this is a model line description, maybe? This seems like a really well-designed and well-built, solid machine. It would be interesting to know how it made its way from sunny California to the Canadian Northlands of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
(Admin BAK note: Poly Products were lapidary machines but we've seen them used for abrading metal.)
