I acquired this from another OWWM member in May 2017 by trading him a complete Porter Cable D-1 15” disc sander. This unit did not come with the base. Perhaps Syracuse offered the sanders configured for benchtop use. It appears to have the original push button power switch shown in the Syracuse catalog posted under Publication Reprints. It originally came with a DC motor that had a larger case size and the motor mounted directly to the riser casting which was curved to match the motor casing. A prior owner cut an opening in the motor and mounted a pulley inside. A belt extended out the opening in the DC motor to another motor mounted near the sander. Both dust shrouds were MIA. Prior history of this sander is unknown.

TYPE STUDY NOTES:
Syracuse Badge Location: Side of riser casting
Motor Info: GE 1/2 HP, 220V DC, 1700 RPM with oval badge (this was most likely the original motor)
Motor Mounting: Top of riser casting is curved to fit the body of the motor.
Disc Rear Cowling Mounting Type: 3 point contact
Tilt Table Size: 7 9/16” x 19 5/16”
S/N on Tilt Table: No
Shape of end of Trunnion that mounts to Tilt Table: Flat
Trunnion Condition: Undamaged
Base Table Size: Missing (but riser casting size would have required 15" x 24 3/4”)
