I obtained this beautiful mill from the original owners in Bergenfield, NJ. They bought it new for their business in 1992 where they made optical measuring machines. This machine is in fantastic shape and I am glad I found this. Machine included a full set of hardinge R8 collets, jacobs super chuck, mill mate DRO, x-axis power feed, and bijur one shot lube system. I have a ton of tooling for the mill I had purchased separetely years ago and I am finally getting to use it. I bought a Kurt DX6 cross over vise, its really nice. I am excited to get to learn how to use this and it will complement my Monarch series 60 lathe nicely.
I was nervous about moving this machine for some reason. I have moved dozens of machines, but perhaps just my inexperience with metal working equipment had me uneasy. I checked with a few resources and read the manual. The first pic below is how the manual says to pick it and I think this is the best way to move them if you can. 2ea 4' nylon slings choked around the ram with softeners under the sharp edges of the dovetail ways. I have an adapter for my forklift that mounts on the forks and lets you attach slings safely. Never put sling eyes on the forks directly, its very dangerous and could end in catastrophe. The mill picked up easily this way and you completely eliminate the chance of it sliding off forks. Thought I would share that as a lot of people ask the question about the best way to move these. I do a lot of rigging design at work and I am convinced this is the best, safest way to eliminate any chance of damaging the machine when moving it. I installed 4x6 about 4' long under the machine before moving it to provide a more stable base on the trailer.
