This Speedmatic-89 was one of many from my dad's collection. He was a freelance carpenter for many years in the St. Louis area. One of his most prized possessions was his Porter-Cable saw. No doubt he remembered ripping 2x12s into 2x6s using a hand saw when he built the house where I was born. I'm sure this effort prompted the purchase of his first PC. Later we lived in an old store building that my dad spent most of his life trying to remodel into living quarters. I often worked with him as a kid, and from time to time he would ask me to cut a board to length with his monster saw. To say it frightened me would be an understatement. In some ways they still do. None of us can remember which one of his saws was the one he earned his living with, could be this one. But it must have been a huge investment for him given at one time he made about $60 a week. This saw runs but has an issue with the switch. Edit: After tearing it down and letting it "percolate" for a year I got this going again. Turns out it got water in it, probably from a leaky roof where it was stored. Strong runner, going to be my daily driver. Goes through 2x4s like a knife in hot butter.
