Note company name on change gear cover is only Whitcomb; therefore, manufacture date derived from incorporation of Whitcomb in 1900, after Rice & Whitcomb at Taft, and establishment of Whitcomb-Blaisdell in 1905, after which the change gear cover displayed both Whitcomb and Blaisdell (see VM doc. no. 17587). Note also that Blaisdell independently produced a lathe through at least 1904 (see VM doc. no. 19998-A).

The absence of a reference to any lathe production under the Whitcomb history tab may be attributed to the source's (The Worcester of Eighteen Hundred and Ninety-eight. Fifty Years a City) 1899 publication date.
