Floor standing mortise machine procured from the Ford Motor Piquette Plant (original Model T factory). Machine originally belonged to Garfield "Gar" Wood, championship motorboat builder and racer. It was reportedly obtained from his personal residence/workshop. Restoration was not required although I might strip and paint it one of these years. I did have to make collet adaptors to accommodate currently available tooling. The unit is single speed with a direct drive 3425 rpm motor. This was too fast for even small diameter bits because you can't feed fast enough with the chisel resistance. Fortunately, the motor is 3PH so I added a VFD for variable speed. Works great and has a storied history.
