Some of my earliest memories of folks doing things with machines were the sparks off this grinder my Grandfather used in the early '50's. There are no labels or other identifiers but there is a "1" and a "W" cast into the frame on the back side. The bearings are the split type. I've not adjusted them in any way - just an occasional shot of grease. Surprisingly, there is no runout - those old bearings have held true for as long as I can remember. The motor was replaced recently - probably a bad capacitor - but it was easier to stick in a spare motor than to chase down the capacitor. If someone knows the origin of this grinder, I'd be interested to know about it. Addendum: 3/7/06 Thanks to the members that helped ID this grinder. One contributor understood that Walker Turner actually made the machine for Wards. That contributor had photos of an identical machine with "Wards Lakeside" decals. Another helpful member targeted an early '50's Wards Catalog archived on this website.
