Comments:
Emmert called this their Tool Maker's and Metal Worker's Universal Vise. Although its intended use and design is different from their better-known Patternmaker's vises, it is similar in operation. It swivels, tilts, pivots, and the triple-jaw head spins, too. It's MUCH easier to mount, too! They were available in two sizes: 3-inch and 4-inch. This is one of the bigger ones, and it opens 6 inches. These are pretty scarce, but reproductions of the literature about them can be found online. They list the weight of the smaller one at 55 pounds, and 100 pounds for this one. I think that this - and my Oliver patternmaker's vise - are the two most-used tools in my shop. I'd be lost without them!
