Comments:
I have long wished for a larger disc sander, and to have found not only a West Coast one, but a hitherto unknown (presumably earlier) iteration of the Rankin Brothers’ business was irresistible. The name cast around the round base on this sander is *Rankin Bros. Precision Machine & Tool Wks., Lynwood, Calif.* Which is similar but different from the *Rankin Bros. Manufacturing Inc.* listed here. The sander comes to me lacking the brackets for attaching the “wrap-over guard” to the motor as a previous owner replaced that motor and seems to have thrown away or lost the brackets in the process, but sporting a rather impressive 3hp Baldor motor, rather more hp than would have been originally spec’d on these: 1-1/2 or 2hp for the 20” model and 3/4, 1, 1-1/2 or 2hp for the 16” model. It appears rather complete and not mistreated.
