I purchased an "Unknown" brand 36 inch Bandsaw from an online auction with IRS Auctions at the beginning of February 2006. They were selling the last few items from the now closed Ethan Allen facility in Frewsburg NY. I made pick up arraingements with Arthur Fuege as he was also picking up from that facility and he has his own forklift. We spent a few wet hours in melting snow and fresh mud attempting to remove our bandsaws and then load them on our trailers without damaging them.

My new saw turned out to be a Whipp Machine Tool Company 36 inch Bandsaw. No one I know has to that point heard of that brand of woodworking machine. They were known for metal working machinery, but not really for wood machines.

It is in good shape for a tool that was probably used almost daily during the plant's heyday. It will need the tires re-crowned and it needs blade guides, but other than cleaning & painting and some guard work to make it safer, It's solid.

It's motor is a 3phase 5 hp direct drive 690 rpm Allis-Chalmers.

As I removed the crappy plywood dust guards, I could then see it's graceful frame. It was brought to my attention on the forum that it looks similar to a 1953 Northfield 36 inch bandsaw shown on OWWM. They look close, but are different in some respects.

I feel I have something rare and older than I first thought, research and time will tell.

I'm digging deep and hope to come up with new information, and as I do, I'll pass along what I can. Unfortunately, there is almost no information on this company.

This mystery is too much fun!

BTW, as I doubt I'll be parting company with it any time soon, so I feel that I can tell you I have $221 invested in it not counting me driving a few hours to go get it.
