This machine was located in the back paddock of a historical society's property in Christchurch, New Zealand.
It was originally owned by Boon & Co. of Christchurch. Boon & Co. built tram cars.
From the "Hills Car No.24 and Deadnought Trailer No.118 Conservation Plan" (page 16) - "For more than quarter of a century Boon & Co. were noted as the foremost tramcar builders in New Zealand, building over 100 electric tramcars, commencing with the construction of some of New Zealand's first electric trams and concluding with the first order of the replacement trolley buses. Not only did they win undisputed control of tram building in their home city of Christchurch, but they were major players in the provincial tram market, with all of the five provincial tramways - Invercargill, Wanganui, Napier, New Plymouth and Gisbourne, having Boon built trams in their fleets."
So without doubt, this early Sagar under/over will have been used in the construction of many tramcars. Alas no more. The machine was awaiting the next scrap drive when I was shown in back in January, 2019 - and went to the great woodmill in the sky a couple of months later.
All is not lost. In return for a small donation the fence was purchased and is now on my Wadkin surface planer (jointer). I had neither the space, nor the means of transport, to add the whole machine to my small collection.
I believe this is the same model as listed by Sion Dovey back in 2013.
