Background:
This tool came from a gentleman who had bought it at an old woodworker’s estate sale. He had been using this tool in his garage to restore old wooden furniture. Lucky for me he felt he did not have any more room for this beauty. I paid $100 for the grinder and cast-iron stand in 2020 which I felt was a very good deal.

Machine Info:
This “Block Grinder” is missing a few parts but did come with a cast iron pedestal stand which is a huge plus. Both side plates to the wheel guards are gone, a single eye guard, and the lampshade for the gooseneck is also missing. This replaced my Hazard Fraught grinder of the supposedly same power and the difference is amazing. There can be no comparison, the Craftsman is in a whole other class.

Treatment:
The conservation of the grinder was straight forward as I prefer to retain original paint if enough of it remains. Areas of corrosion were cleaned and the whole body applied a coating of wax. The pedestal received the same cleaning and wax treatment. All hardware was cleaned and blued before being greased and put back into place. The bearings spin freely, and the inside of the motor looked to be in great condition. I removed the partial wheel guards and made the grinder into a buffing station.
