I saw this bandsaw wrapped up on a drive way at a house while I was going by it several times and it caught my attention so much that I had to stop by and take pictures of it. The owner, Jim McDonald, got this from his late father, passed through his nephew-both deceased. I asked for his permission to take pixs of it. During the shoots, I found that he was a construction carpenter and was injured on a job 20 yrs ago, but that didn't stop from working with exotic woods.
It's one thing to see something in pictures, but to actually see the machine in person is a different story entirely. The motor is HUGE! The wheels moves very freely that his father put a steering knuckle on the lower wheel to operate it. I guess he didn't have 3 ph/240v power available, so he used his son, Jim, as a motive power. When he could catch him, that is!:-) Jim told me about using steam power to operate it. Hmm, this I got to see.
