I answered an ad for a 6 in 1 woodworking machine about 10 years ago. It was a Parks Planing Mill Special, made by The Parks Ball Bearing Machine Company, not a single ball bearing in it. The machine was complete except for the sanding disk. I called Bob Vaughn to ask his opinion of the machine. Short of telling me what to do he only said he was glad he wasn't given the opportunity to buy it. Well I did. What I got along with anything I wanted in the shop was this E. Gould Mortiser. I don't know the age but the shop had to be over 100 years old. It was a window shop on Brill Street in Newark, NJ just off Ferry Street. I don't know when the shop closed it's doors but it could have been days before I first saw it. It was a true time capsule. I regret not taking lots of pictures. The mortiser was off to the side in a corner. I assume it was benched once the Parks Machine with it's hollow chisel mortiser entered the shop about 1918. I'm sure this machine manufactured in Newark about a mile, as the crow flies, from where I found it, never left the city until I removed it in the mid 90's. It may look like hell but still operates smoothly.
There is another similar machine in the woodshop of Allaire State Park Farmingdale, NJ.
