This is the other piece I picked up on the 1825 mile, two day road trip.It is called an
American Patent Universal Saw Bench according to the 1917,eleventh edition catalogue. The
serial number is 112352,it is flat belt drive, will take two 16" blades,1 1/8th bore, will cut off 30" wide on the rolling table,a 16" saw blade will project 5" above table. It will take up to a 2" dado blade stack. The saw weights 2350 LBS.The saw came with one miter gauge, rack and pinon fence with tilt and the original blade guard.I will be looking for the segment gauge as it was missing. The saw was designed for very fine and
accurate work in pattern and cabinet shops. The saw is in need of a good cleaning and a paint job.It also came with the original double ended wrench for changing blades and openning and closing the sliding table.I bought the saw from Mike Amory who has a boat yard in Cambridge MD. way down on the Chesapeake Bay(This place was out in the middle of nowhere!!).Mike restores old wooden boats and does other wood work and sawing with a wooodmiser as well.I had a wonderful time chatting with Mike and he showed me his shop and collection of OWWM's.He was in the process of restoring a 1930 mahogany Chris Craft(my dream boat)and a few other boats as well. The one thing I really enjoy about these trips are all the good people with so many different talents I get to meet and make friendships with.
