American Red Seal No. 64 "Extra Heavy Duty" machinist's vise with the swivel base. This vise weighs 78lbs. and had 4.5" wide jaws. Built by the American Scale Company of Kansas City, MO (1895-1960's). This No. 64 was my Grandpas and I got it in 1994. This No. 64 vise was given to him brand new in the mid to later 1940's by his Foreman Supervisor at the Ford River Rouge Plant in Dearborn Michigan. This was a "extra vise" from a large new vise order placed by Ford Motor Co. and the American Scale Co's Rep. told my Grandpa's Supervisor to just keep this vise and not send it back to them. So the one catch was my Grandpa had to carry it out under his overcoat and walk all the way home in the dead of winter in the Detroit area (Melvindale) since he did not own a car at that time.
For these American "Red Seal" vises to be used by the Ford Motor Company in their foundry works shop says a lot to as how dam well built these vises were seeing this kind of extreme heavy duty use in the largest working manufacturing plant in the world. BTW, the order Ford Motor Co. placed was for over 50 American Red Seal #64 machinist vises with swivel bases per Ford Foreman...
